What is the Mid-Kent League?
Aug 10th, 2008, 8:46pm

Can someone please fill me in on what the Mid-Kent League is, what clubs are involved and how it operates? Smiley

I've looked around the web, but haven't found much about the subject.

Thanks.

Gordon will be best placed to fill in all the answers to this, but it is a league made up of teams from mid kent, (20mile radius of maidstone i think) who shoot home and away matches against each other, to determine winners at the end of the season.
Gordon is our midkent league rep,
There is a list on the notice board in the shed for about 4 weeks prior to each match for anyone who wants to shoot to put their names on.
And about a week after each match Gordon puts the results on the notice board and on the club website.
The rounds shot consist of windsors Varying distances, Albion or St George. The rounds archers shoot depends upon gender, Classification and bow type.

Thanks for this.

I wonder if it would be possible to have some more information about the Mid-Kent League on the website for those who are new to the club. Wink

The Mid-Kent League is an inter club archery competition open to clubs within about 25 miles of Maidstone. There are 13 clubs currently in the League (arranged in 2 divisions) and some 240 archers taking part. Matches are held monthly from Apr to Sep and a draw takes place in Jan to pair clubs for the various matches; each club shooting 3 home matches and 3 away matches. As there is an odd number of clubs, some have to shoot a bye at an away field.

The rounds shot are St George, Albion, Windsor, Short & Junior Windsor, and archers shoot the round appropriate to their classification, age, sex, bow type and in accordance with GNAS rules and League byelaws. Unless agreed with the host club, each club may field a maximum of 12 archers. The 4 highest actual scores from each team are totalled to determine the winner on actual score and, likewise, the 4 highest handicap scores for the winner on handicap. The results from all the clubs (and all archers) are then submitted to the League record officer for verification and calculation of the monthly accumulated actual and handicap scores for each club. The results and League positions are posted monthly on the notice board and website.

In Nov, trophies are awarded to the clubs with the highest accumulated actual and handicap scores in each division, and medals given to individual archers who achieve the highest actual scores in their respective categories.

The League is open to all members (subject to space), and beginners with their high handicaps are just as welcome as old hands who can be relied on (usually!) for a good actual score. It isn't necessary to shoot every match, but at least 3 must be shot to qualify for an individual award. The League provides an opportunity to shoot at different venues alongside archers from other clubs in friendly rivalry - and there's always a nice cup of tea and a bun to be had afterwards!

The next (last) Mid-Kent League match is on 21st Sep at home, so make sure you don't miss it!
